‘In extremis’ squatting attempt thwarted in Sant Antoni: caught while changing the locks

A security company guard raised the alarm after discovering what was happening.

The owner of a country house in Cala Gració, in the municipality of Sant Antoni, narrowly avoided a squatting attempt carried out by two individuals who fled on foot before the Civil Guard arrived.

The incident occurred last Saturday at precisely 1:48 p.m., when the alarm system installed on the property was triggered. The security guard immediately went to the site and found that the padlock on the entrance gate to the property was missing.

Upon entering the property, he caught two individuals red-handed while they were changing the locks on the house, after having forced the main door, which was left leaning against the wall. In addition, the drawers of the entrance cabinet were open and their contents had been rummaged through.

When questioned by the guard, the two individuals claimed to be an electrician and a locksmith and said they had been sent by the owner to install new locks. The guard then checked the alarm control panel and found that several cables had been cut.

The owner confirms they were intruders

Given the situation, the security company contacted the alarm monitoring center of GPS909, which in turn called the property owner. He clarified that he had not sent any workers to the property and that he did not know the identity of the intruders.

After this was confirmed, the security company requested the intervention of the Civil Guard, which dispatched a patrol to the area. However, officers were unable to detain the squatters as they had fled on foot before their arrival.
